Decorating any room in your home can be difficult and sometimes tedious. However, when it comes to decorating your living room, the task can seem even more monumental. You and your family and friends spend a lot, if not most, of your time in said room, therefore, you’ll want the space to not only look good and be comfortable, but you’ll also want the room to reflect you and your tastes. Luckily, there are many different ways to turn your living room into a welcoming place that you and everyone else will want to spend time in.

Picking Paint

An important factor to consider when decorating your living room is colour: what colour of paint are you going to use for the surrounding walls? Of course, white is common and perfect if you plan on hanging a lot of decorations, picture frames, knickknacks, etc. The colour “white” also offers a clean look. But perhaps you want a bolder, more daring look. If this is the case, then you might decide on something more creative i.e. a light blue, lavender, rustic red, etc. Choosing the right tone of paint will definitely decide on your own personality, as well as how you are deciding to furnish the room.

When choosing paint colours, it’s important to stay away from dark tones, like black, dark green, etc. The darker the colour of the walls, the smaller or tighter the room will feel. As this is your living space, you will undoubtedly be spending a lot of time in this room. You will want the room to feel spacey and comfortable; you’ll want to be able to feel as if you can breathe and relax in this room.

Picking Furniture

Choosing the right furniture for your living room is equally as important as picking the right colour of paint for your walls. For instances, you’ll want to choose comfortable pieces with materials that look appealing. Again, as you did with the paint, you’ll want to decide what type of furniture and what materials reflect you and your personality.

First, you’ll need to pick from chairs or sofas, or both, depending on how many people are in your family and if you plan on hosting events or parties. Remember this: sofas seat more people than chairs do, and if you have overnight guests, then they can sleep more comfortable on a sofa versus a chair.

Picking the right sofa can be fun; you’ll have different options to choose from. For example, do you like leather? Do you like sofas that recline? What is your favorite colour? Sofas come in different sizes, colours, and materials, depending on your wants and needs.

After choosing a sofa, you’ll be able to decide what kind of table you want for the living room. Do you prefer glass, metal, or wood? With your walls painted and your sofa pieces picked out, you’ll have an easier time deciding which table would best accent the room.

Lastly, to add just a bit more personality to the room, consider placing vases of flowers, family portraits, or candles around the living space. These items will help create a specific ambiance to your living room.
