Magdeburg is situated on the Elbe River and is one of the most outstanding medieval cities of Europe.  It is home to some incredible sights including an amazing Lutheran cathedral, which is the highest church building in Eastern Germany.

There are also many surrounding lakes and national parks that are simply beautiful. This area of Germany is particularly scenic and very picturesque, making it the ideal location for a camping holiday. Whether you’re looking for a secluded break in the middle of nowhere, or an exciting base from which you can explore the town centres, there are many great campsites in and around Magdeburg, Germany.

Campsite Barleber Lake

Located just north of Magdeburg itself, this wonderful campsite is situated on the eastern shore of the Barleber Lake. It is surrounded by trees and does not allow cars, so it really encourages visitors to get back to the basics.

The great thing about this site is that it is very family friendly and there is a playground where the kids can spend hours enjoying themselves. There is also a sandy area by the lake where many visitors enjoy sun bathing as well as simply relaxing by the water. 

Holiday Park Plötzky

In the area of Plötzky which lies close to Magdeburg, this idyllic campsite is a hidden treasure. Surrounded by a forest and 24 stunning lakes, this natural paradise is the ideal location for those who enjoy swimming, fishing and diving, with clear blue waters accessible to all campers. Despite the serenity and solitude, it is still less than half an hour away from the centre of Magdeburg.

This campsite also has a lot of great activities available including a great play area for the children, organised beach games such as volleyball, and if you have a pet, dogs are also welcome on site. The site also offers bike hire and has a wonderful on site restaurant with first class cuisine, perfect for those evenings when you just don’t want to cook over the campfire.

Campsite Kolumbus Lake – Plötzky

This very large campsite attracts a large variety of visitors every year. People come from across Europe to enjoy the buzz and great atmosphere of camping by the Kolumbus Lake.

The site is relatively close to holiday bungalows and villas in the surrounding wooded area, so if you’re looking for an upbeat and busy camping holiday, this is definitely the right place for you. The Kolumbus Lake was originally a quarry, however, when it became disused it filled with water and is now a beautiful and popular lake.

Camping Am Jersleber See

Located just outside Magdeburg, this great campsite is approximately 36 hectares in size and is surrounded by idyllic scenery. If you enjoy going for walks then this site is perfect, as there are many trails in the local woodland area.

There are 250 pitches for permanent campers, as well as 100 pitches for those who are on short camping holidays. Every pitch has the option of an electricity connection, so you don’t have to give up all of your little luxuries on this camping trip. Glampers are very welcome!
